Refreshed 2027 Nissan Z Previewed at Tokyo Auto Salon

The latest Nissan Z was launched three years ago, and while the 2026 model isn't yet on sale in Canada, it is south of the border, without any major changes. However, a mid-cycle refresh is on the way, as can be seen today at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan.

The car retains a familiar silhouette, but its redesigned front bumper is less rectangular and contributes to a more dynamic-looking fascia. The lip spoiler is more prominent and, even more notably, the grille adopts a trapezoidal shape along with a body-coloured crossbar. According to Nissan, aerodynamics have been improved in the process, including a 3.3% reduction in front lift and a 1% reduction in drag.

The brand’s logo is replaced by a "Z" badge, the wheels are new and available with a two-tone finish, and the trunklid spoiler in the rear is gone for some reason. We kind of like this new Unryu Green body paint, which is inspired by the Grand Prix Green of the original Z and paired with a tan interior. The Z NISMO, meanwhile, continues to stand out with a more aggressive exterior, red accents, unique wheels and a black, suede-trimmed interior.

There are no changes under the hood: the twin-turbo V6 still produces 400 horsepower in Sport and Performance trim, or 420 horsepower in the Z NISMO. However, the latter finally adds the option of a six-speed manual transmission. Customers who choose it instead of the nine-speed autobox will also benefit from revised engine settings.

What else? It appears Nissan has fitted larger-diameter monotube shock absorbers to improve ride quality. The Z NISMO also gets upgraded brakes derived from the discontinued GT-R.

The new Nissan Z will go on sale in Japan starting this summer. More information about the North American-spec 2027 model will be released in the coming months, so stay tuned.
