Volvo EX60 Coming With 640 km of Range and Ultra-Fast Charging

Volvo enjoyed a record year in Canada in 2025, selling 14,500 vehicles, or 8.2% more than in 2024. Will this momentum continue in 2026?

One thing’s for sure, the Swedish automaker, which has decided to stop importing the U.S.-built EX90 three-row electric SUV due to Canadian counter-tariffs, is banking heavily on the all-new and upcoming 2027 Volvo EX60, which will be unveiled on January 21.

Basically an electric variant of its best-selling XC60, this vehicle is already touting exceptional capabilities. Among other things, it promises to travel up to 640 km on a full charge, in an all-wheel-drive configuration no less. That kind of range, calculated according to EPA standards, would beat even the most recently unveiled competitors such as the 2027 BMW iX3 and 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ, Volvo claims.

The new EX60 will also charge faster than any other Volvo electric vehicle—as fast as a fuel stop and buying a coffee, apparently. Thanks to the 800V system, it would be possible to add up to 270 km of range in just 10 minutes. Keep in mind, however, that these figures are achieved using a 400kW DC charging station, while the most powerful chargers currently available in Canada are 350kW units and relatively rare.

The SPA3 platform the EX60 is based on happens to be Volvo’s most advanced electric car architecture to date, unlocking maximum efficiency in key systems. Integrating the battery directly into the structure with cell-to-body technology and developing the motors in-house further makes the vehicle energy-efficient and cuts excessive weight.

Not only that, but the EX60 is the first Volvo built with the help of mega casting, whereby hundreds of smaller parts are replaced with a single, high-precision casting in the production process. Oh, and all customers will get a 10-year warranty on the battery.

“The EX60 is designed to be a gamechanger,” says Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo. “With our new electric vehicle architecture, we directly address the main worries that customers have when considering a switch to a fully electric car. The result is class-leading range and fast charging speeds, marking the end of range anxiety.”

Check back on January 21 to see the new 2027 Volvo EX60 and learn all about it.
