Honda, Toyota Achieve Impressive 2025 Sales in Canada

Automakers are currently releasing their sales figures for the entire year of 2025 and once again Honda and Toyota stand out from the pack.

First, the Honda Civic remained the best-selling car in Canada for the 26th time in the past 28 years. A total of 31,054 units were sold across the country.

Furthermore, despite higher-than-average prices, the Honda CR-V Hybrid ended 2025 as the most popular hybrid vehicle in Canada. In fact, 35,325 of the 55,987 CR-Vs sold last year were hybrid models.

“Seeing the Civic finish as the nation’s number one selling passenger car, alongside the CR-V Hybrid leading the hybrid segment, is both humbling and deeply appreciated,” said Emile Korkor, Assistant Vice President at Honda Canada. “Every Civic and CR-V that leaves our Alliston, Ontario facilities carries their commitment to excellence that we know Canadians continue to recognize and trust.”

Including the Accord, Honda's hybrid models accounted for 43 percent of the brand's total sales in Canada in 2025. The Alliston plant will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2026.

Toyota, meanwhile, recorded its best results ever in Canada with 249,445 vehicles sold. More specifically, Toyota (216,258 units) and Lexus (33,187 units) each broke their all-time marks, with the latter doing so for the third consecutive year.

“I’d like to thank our Toyota and Lexus customers for their continued confidence and trust in Toyota Canada during this record year,” said Cyril Dimitris, President and CEO of Toyota Canada. “I’d also like to thank and recognize our dealers and their dealership staff for their commitment to supporting our Canadian customers.”

Up 5.4 percent compared to the previous year, the automaker’s electrified vehicles generated 123,886 sales, representing 49.7 percent of its 2025 total.

Although nearing the end of its generation, the RAV4 posted its second-best year ever with 75,573 units sold, just shy of the 2024 total. It remains by far the best-selling SUV nationwide, ahead of the CR-V. We'll see if the new 2026 model’s prices change anything. Incidentally, Toyota continues to be Canada’s largest automotive manufacturer with 537,518 vehicles assembled in 2025.

Check back in a few days for a top 10 list of the best-selling vehicles in Canada in 2025.
