2027 Ram Power Wagon Gets High-Output Cummins Diesel Engine
Looking for an off-road capable, heavy-duty pickup with insane torque? Say hello to the 2027 Ram Power Wagon, which is getting the high-output Cummins turbodiesel engine that so many enthusiasts have been asking for.
That’s right: in addition to the 6.4-litre gasoline V8 producing 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, customers will now be able to choose the 6.7-litre turbodiesel six-cylinder that delivers 430 horsepower and a massive 1,075 lb-ft of torque, all paired with an 8-speed transmission. With the 117-litre fuel tank, Ram estimates a range of 966 km between fill-ups.

“Matching the Power Wagon with the Cummins turbo diesel delivers everything our hardcore Ram fans expect: off-road capability with the best diesel in the HD segment. It’s the Power Wagon they’ve been waiting for,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of American Brands, SRT Performance, North American Marketing and Retail Strategy at Stellantis.
Towing capacity and payload are rated at 20,000 lbs and 3,000 lbs, respectively. Ram will offer two towing packages: the first includes an LED centre brake light with Cargo-View camera, 360-degree camera system, trailer reverse guidance and trailer tire pressure monitoring system, while the second adds a digital rearview mirror and trailer reverse steering control.

For the first time, the Power Wagon diesel can also be optioned with fifth-wheel/gooseneck preparation and auto-leveling rear air suspension.
Enhanced Capability
The 2027 Ram 2500HD Power Wagon diesel is offered in a single 4x4 configuration with a crew cab and 6.4-foot cargo bed. It stands out from other 2500HD models with "Power Wagon" bedside graphics and Satin Black accents, a sport performance hood with an air intake and Satin Black 20-inch wheels mounted on 34-inch all-terrain tires. The cabin features the Uconnect 5 multimedia system with a 14.5-inch screen.

When it comes to off-road capability, the Power Wagon delivers a 26.1-degree approach angle and 26.0-degree departure angle. Strategic underbody packaging yields 12.6-inches of ground clearance and a 19.7-degree breakover angle. Drivers also benefit from a multitude of rugged components and accessories to tackle any terrain, starting with underbody skid plates that protect the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tank, fuel tank and transfer case.

The newest variant in Ram’s off-road truck lineup retains solid front and rear axles with locking differentials (the rear one boasts upgraded 38mm axle shafts, a 3.42 axle ratio, and is paired with a five-link coil suspension), plus Bilstein monotube shocks and coil springs.
The 2027 Ram Power Wagon equipped with the high-output Cummins turbodiesel engine will hit the market in the second half of 2026, and pricing will be announced closer to the launch date. For the record, the 2026 model with the gasoline V8 starts at $92,490 (MSRP plus fees). At the time of writing, Ram was also offering a $7,000 pre-tax rebate.
