2025-2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV is Too Quiet for Transport Canada
The best-selling Chevrolet Equinox EV electric crossover has just been hit with a new safety recall because a software issue could cause the pedestrian warning system not to work properly in some cases.
As you probably know, Transport Canada requires electric vehicles to make sounds at certain levels when operating at low speeds in order to alert and prevent injuries to other road users, mainly pedestrians and cyclists.

A total of 20,824 units covering the 2025 and 2026 model years are affected across the country.

The good news is that the fix involves an over-the-air software update to the body control module, so there’s no need to visit a dealership. Of course, owners can always schedule an appointment to have the update performed by a dealer.
A similar recall was announced for 10,010 units of the 2024 Equinox EV in September of this year.
Oddly enough, around this time a year ago, a recall was issued for 5,192 units of the 2025 Equinox EV because the same pedestrian warning system could produce an excessively loud sound. Again, a software update was required, but only through dealerships.
