2 Millionth Lexus RX Rolls Off the Line in Cambridge
The venerable Lexus RX is by far one of the most popular luxury SUVs in Canada. With just over 8,000 units sold since the beginning of the year, it represents about a third of Lexus sales in the country and is second only to its smaller sibling, the NX.
It was also the brand’s first vehicle to be manufactured outside of Japan back in 2003. Twenty-two years later, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada’s (TMMC) South plant in Cambridge, Ontario has just assembled the 2 millionth RX.

More than 145,000 of those 2 million RX units have stayed in Canada, with the remainder being shipped to the U.S. and overseas. It's also worth noting that nearly 95 percent of all RX vehicles sold in Canada last year were built locally. The remaining 5 percent, specifically RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid models, came from Japan.
“The Lexus RX continues to be a favourite among drivers across North America, and we thank our team members for their skill, dedication and commitment to craftsmanship, which ensure every vehicle meets the highest standards of luxury and quality,” TMMC President Tim Hollander said.
Since 1991, TMMC's three plants have collectively earned over twenty national and international awards and accolades for the quality of their products, including several for the Lexus RX.
