2027 Chevrolet Bolt: Five Things to Know

General Motors has admitted its mistake and is bringing back the Chevrolet Bolt with a new generation—albeit in a very familiar form—for the 2027 model year. The Car Guide was even given an exclusive opportunity to test drive the car at a special event in Los Angeles on October 8.

Production is expected to begin by the end of the year at the Fairfax, Kansas assembly plant, with the first deliveries—in limited numbers—expected sometime in the first quarter of 2026. Until then, here are five things you need to know about the new Bolt (which drops the “EV” from its name):

Two Trim Levels, Minor Price Hikes

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will launch with the entry-level LT model at an all-inclusive price of $43,470. That's about $1,500 more expensive than the original, but comparable to the Bolt EUV that was sold alongside it. Crucially, government subsidies are nowhere near what they used to be. The federal iZEV incentive of up to $5,000 has been suspended and may never return, while Quebec's own incentive, for example, went from $7,000 in 2023 to $2,000 starting in 2026.

A new, sporty-looking RS model will also be available, retailing from $46,025. This one features a unique grille emblem, high-gloss black wheels and roof rails. There's also an exclusive colour combination of Atomic Yellow on the outside with red contrast stitching on the inside.

Up to 410 km of Range

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is GM's 10th electric vehicle to use the X76 drive unit, with economies of scale helping the automaker deliver a lower price. This motor was designed in-house to maximize range and improve fuel efficiency. However, GM estimates the new Bolt will be able to travel up to 410 km, compared to 417 km for the previous Bolt EV. That's a bit disappointing.

A key improvement is that the braking system has been optimized for consistent pedal feel during both regen and friction braking, GM claims.

Much Faster Charging

GM engineers have addressed a major shortcoming of the Bolt. Indeed, the maximum charging speed when using a DC fast charging station is now up to 2.5 times faster thanks to a capacity of up to 150 kW. This means the battery can now go from 10-80% in just 26 minutes.

Here’s another significant upgrade: the 2027 Bolt is the first Chevrolet electric vehicle to offer a native NACS charging port, which provides direct access to Tesla Superchargers.

All-New, Cutting-Edge Interior

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt's interior is centered around an 11.3-inch touchscreen, which is paired with a new 11-inch digital instrument cluster with a customizable display. The column-mounted shifter offers more space between the front seats (which are heated, just like the steering wheel), and a panoramic sunroof is available as an option.

Incidentally, the infotainment system features Google built-in. With “Hey Google” voice assistance, occupants can control cabin temperature, seat warmers, voice-to-text, hands-free phone calls and more. Meanwhile, with Google Maps, the drive route automatically includes information on battery range. On longer drives, it gives smarter routes and charging recommendations.

In addition, when the car is parked or charging, occupants can play games like Angry Birds, browse the internet via Chrome or watch content on Tubi or Prime Video.

Driver Assistance Taken to a New Level

More than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features are part of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, including Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking .

Last but not least, Super Cruise hands-free driving technology is available for the first time. In fact, Google Maps syncs with Super Cruise to show compatible routes and indicate how many minutes of your trip can be driven hands-free.
