Canadian Black Book Hands Out 2025 Best Retained Value Awards

For the 18th year, Canadian Black Book (CBB) is recognizing vehicles that retain the highest percentage of their original Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) four years after purchase.

The industry average for 2025 stands at 67.5%, which is barely higher than last year and far from the all-time high of 80% recorded in 2022 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a year that has brought further uncertainty to the car market, particularly due to the new tariffs, CBB notes that brands with a wider range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles are doing better than those that rely solely on battery-electric models.

Toyota is once again the top mainstream brand and also boasts the most category wins (seven). The Tacoma extends its unmatched streak as Small/Mid Pickup winner, now leading for 17 consecutive years.

“These awards reflect the long-term value built into every Toyota, and we’re grateful for the trust our customers place in us,” said Robert Tsang, VP of Sales and Marketing at Toyota Canada. “We’re proud to offer a diverse lineup that gives Canadians choice, while remaining committed to delivering the quality they can rely on.”

Porsche returns as the top premium brand, BMW stands out as the best electric vehicle brand, while Buick has the distinction of being the most improved brand.
