Ram’s Fully Electric Pickup is Dead, Ramcharger to Carry REV Name

The Ram 1500 REV project is over before it even hit the market.

Officially unveiled in April 2023 at the New York Auto Show, Ram's fully electric pickup was originally scheduled to launch in the U.S. by the end of 2024. It was first pushed back to the first half of 2025, then to 2026. Last May, Stellantis moved it to the summer of 2027 and nixed the long-range variant with an estimated 800+ km. However, the latest twist comes today.

“As demand for full-size battery electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup,” the company said in a statement.

The Ram 1500 REV name will live on, however, as it will be used for the range-extending electric pickup—essentially a glorified plug-in hybrid—that debuted at the Ramcharger and is slated to arrive on the market in the first quarter of 2026, barring any further delays.

“This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability and payload performance,” Stellantis promises as it takes more time to ensure product quality.

Production will take place at the Sterling Heights plant in Michigan, which is benefiting from a $235 million USD investment to prepare for the assembly of these range-extending EV pickups.

The termination of the all-electric Ram 1500 also comes at the same time as the brand is bringing back V8s to its lineup in response to widespread customer demand and aided by the new U.S. administration's deregulatory policies. On that note, don't miss our still-fresh 2026 Ram 1500 HEMI V8 review.
