Morgan Building New Car!

Whenever Morgan feels the need to build a new car, it’s big news. Why? Because the brand has built their entire reputation on building anything but a new car. Hailing back to a simpler time long before the computer even existed, the Morgan lineup is one of the most and archaic, extant. And that’s precisely how Morgan customers want it.

But, in the light of a declining customer base, the archetypal British brand has resolved to build a new model every two years; a refresh cycle that has even Honda turning British Racing Green out of envy. This, the EvaGT, is supposedly the first of what should be a regular tradition. Making full use of clever technologies that the Morgan Motor Company has developed to manufacture a lightweight car, the EvaGT uses a developed version of the bonded aluminium chassis of the Morgan Aero SuperSports, a chassis that successfully competes in International GT3 Sports Car Racing.
Interestingly, Morgan was the first car company in 1995 to see the benefit of superformed aluminium, an aircraft technology in order to manufacture smooth accurate body parts. Morgan Design has sculpted a new shape for the Morgan EvaGT that focuses on natural materials and understands their unique technical properties. Using computer technology in design and in manufacture to ensure accuracy, the parts are then hand finished to ensure that they feel as good as they look. A perfect "A" class surface, minimal shut lines, hidden wipers, flush door handles and sharp creases deflect air over the surface of the car.

Underneath the sculpted hood will reside a variant of BMW’s twin-turbocharged inline six, producing 306 horsepower. Similar to the power output of the 335i, the big news is this: a claimed fuel economy figure of 7.0 litres per 100 kilometers. A pleasant side-effect of the alleged 2,755 pound curb weight, that fuel economy figure is joined by a also-impressive performance figure: 4.5 seconds. The time it will take for the EvaGT to reach 60 miles per hour, that number puts the new Morgan squarely in the sights of more than a few sports cars. Wait for more details, and a more detailed image, after the vehicle’s launch at Pebble Beach.
