Acura Reveals Electric RSX SUV Prototype

Just in time for Monterey Car Week, Acura has unveiled the RSX prototype, a 100% electric, performance-oriented SUV with a sleek, fighter jet-inspired design. It is also the first model to use a brand new platform developed in-house, rather than relying on General Motors (GM) underpinnings, as was the case with the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX. It also uses its own operating system, called ASIMO, named after the humanoid robot introduced in the early 2000s.

The system will learn by observing the driver's habits and preferences in order to offer a personalized experience. The model shown above features a propulsion yellow paint and a coupe silhouette, evoking the brand's sporty identity. This is complemented by 21-inch wheels and a pentagonal grille with a distinctive visual signature. The horizontal taillight extends across the entire width of the vehicle and pays homage to the first-generation NSX sports car.

Beyond the design, Acura promises an exhilarating driving experience thanks to several features, including a low centre of gravity due to the battery's location. The RSX will also feature two motors for all-wheel drive performance, as well as Brembo brakes and a sport suspension.

No images of the interior have been shared yet. This new SUV will be equipped with bidirectional charging, allowing it to power devices or provide backup power for the home. The production model is expected to arrive in the second half of 2026, and the vehicle will be assembled at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio. For now, the prototype will be on display to the public on August 15 at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering.
