Cadillac Unveils Elevated Velocity Off-Road Performance Concept

Following the Sollei and Opulent Velocity, Cadillac today unveiled a new concept based on the performance of the V Series: the Elevated Velocity. Unlike the other two concepts mentioned above, this is a performance crossover capable of tackling both dunes and tarmac. It is a stylistic exercise aimed at exploring new horizons for the brand's future. The name comes from the evocative design and refined interior (Elevated), both of which are combined with a high-performance architecture (Velocity).

Elevating the senses

Cadillac is exploring new ways to integrate technology into design. This includes the experiences passengers will enjoy, starting with the Welcome Mode sequence. As you approach the vehicle, the floor, seats, instrumentation, doors, and steering wheel light up in white, while the butterfly doors rise simultaneously. An animation is also activated on the steering wheel. “Elevated Mode” transforms the cabin into a lounge, and the vehicle’s autonomous systems take the wheel. The steering column and pedals retract to provide more space in the cockpit.

The occupant’s gestures and breathing are captured and synchronized with the lights. At the same time, the seats emit infrared light to optimize comfort. The idea may seem funny, but Cadillac reiterates that this is first and foremost a concept. “The teams were exploring different ideas to help occupants recharge, depending on a project or destination. So, it's about exploring different types of technology, and that's precisely the purpose of this study,” said Bryan Nesbitt, vice president of global design at General Motors.

Velocity Mode is activated by the driver and allows them to regain control. The ambient lights return to white. The steering wheel unfolds and displays driving information: speed, time, temperature, and battery percentage. Navigation appears in the augmented reality head-up display. Capable of tackling rough terrain, the suspension has been raised and the concept is fitted with huge 24-inch wheels. It also features several modes and gadgets. E-Velocity mode maximizes performance, while Terra mode raises the air suspension even higher. When driving at high speeds in the desert, the Sand Vision feature, which works similarly to the night vision already offered by some Cadillac products, optimizes visibility through sand clouds. Once the adventure is over, the Elements Defy feature sends a vibration.

Once the adventure is over, the Elements Defy feature sends a vibration around the vehicle to remove any debris, dust, or sand that has accumulated on the bodywork.

A sleek look

In terms of design, the exterior exudes sculptural prestige with its long hood and complex front end. The latter reimagines the light choreography with a new sequence. So even though the proportions are imposing—giving it a notable presence on the road—Cadillac focuses on aerodynamics. The cabin features several clever touches, such as an air purification system and sophisticated climate control to mitigate drastic temperature changes. “The goal of the interior design was to physically reduce weight through sleek shapes while providing comfort and support that are also visually rich,” said Ding Zeng, creative interior designer at Cadillac Advanced Design.

The Elevated Velocity will be on display at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, California, on August 15.
