Minivans Are Back! Latest Sales Results Highlight Sustained Growth
Long considered on the verge of extinction in a market increasingly dominated by SUVs and pickup trucks, the good old minivans are far from finished. On the contrary, they are experiencing a real resurgence in popularity.
The trend we observed in 2024 continued into the first half of 2025: excluding the all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz, which is still new to the market, each of the segment's contenders posted increased sales.

Here’s how they stacked up:
- Toyota Sienna: 6,475 units (+21%)
- Chrysler Pacifica: 5,451 units (+82%)
- Chrysler Grand Caravan: 3,291 units (+21%)
- Kia Carnival: 3,126 units (+31%)
- Honda Odyssey: 2,682 units (+31%)
Beyond these figures, some interesting observations can be made. Within Toyota's vast portfolio, the Sienna is currently the fifth best-selling vehicle, ranking behind Canadian favourites such as the RAV4, Corolla and Corolla Cross, as well as the Tundra full-size pickup. That means it attracts more large families than the Highlander and Grand Highlander.
Chrysler, which only sells minivans these days, is one of the few bright spots for parent company Stellantis. The Pacifica's 82% sales increase in the first six months of 2025 is remarkable. In fact, this model outsold every single Dodge and Jeep SUV not named Wrangler during the period.
Over at Honda, the Odyssey's 31% improvement far exceeds those of the CR-V and HR-V, making it more popular now than the Ridgeline pickup. Remember, the current generation dates back to the 2018 model year.
And consider this: the Sienna and Pacifica are the best-selling minivans in Canada despite their prices being among the highest, especially due to their more upscale and hybrid models. The latter can go all the way up to $75,700 before the various fees and tax.
On the flip side, the Carnival is the least expensive minivan out there, whether it's gas-powered (MSRP starting at $41,495 for the 2026 model) or electrified (MSRP starting at $47,545).
