2026 Dodge Hornet Production for Canada, U.S. to Be Postponed

Dodge’s three-vehicle lineup will be reduced to two as Stellantis delays production of the Dodge Hornet for the 2026 model year.

This small crossover has been manufactured in Italy alongside its cousin, the Alfa Romeo Tonale, since launching three years ago. However, the newly imposed 25% U.S. tariffs on foreign-made vehicles would significantly increase its already above-average price.

“Production of the Dodge Hornet is postponed for the 2026 model year as we continue to assess the effects of U.S. tariff policies,” a Stellantis spokesperson has just told The Car Guide, confirming that this action also affects Canada despite no Canadian tariffs being slapped on new vehicles coming over from Europe.

Right now, no start date for production is planned.

Lackluster Sales

The Hornet features either a turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 268 hp or a plug-in hybrid system enabling 53 km of pure electric driving. However, with prices ranging from $41,495-$60,995 (MSRP) as well as numerous quality and reliability issues, particularly where the powertrain is concerned, sales have been disappointing to say the least.

Barely 5,647 units were sold in the U.S. during the first half of 2025, down 52% from the same period a year ago. Up here in Canada, the decline is only 1%, but we're talking about just 1,094 units sold—far behind most other compact SUVs. In fact, many dealers still have 2024 models in stock.

The Hornet's big brother, the Durango, is approximately four times more popular in Canada and six times more popular south of the border.

A few weeks ago, Dodge also decided to postpone production of the Charger Daytona R/T electric coupe for the 2026 model year as it assesses the impact of U.S. tariff policies. The company will therefore bank on the much more expensive Scat Pack model, as well as the new four-door variant and the gasoline-powered SIXPACK models slated to arrive by the end of 2025.
