Mercedes-AMG Mythos Series to Give 250 Customers a Taste of F1

In addition to hosting its annual Formula 1 Grand Prix this weekend, Monaco was the scene on Wednesday for the world premiere of a new concept from Mercedes-Benz that previews the first model in the highly exclusive Mythos series to come. F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were also on hand for the event.

Called PureSpeed, the performance car boasts a radical, completely open, two-seater design without a roof or windscreen and is a tribute to auto racing.

“The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed offers a glimpse of what is probably the most direct way to experience performance and driving pleasure. You can experience light, air and passion unfiltered with all your senses,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “As the concept of our first Mythos vehicle, it embodies the highest level of exclusivity. Design elements such as the HALO also create a Formula 1 feeling. There is therefore no better place for its world premiere than Monaco.”

The HALO system, which replaces the conventional A-pillar here, has been part of every F1 car since 2018. It consists of a bracket that is connected to the body of the vehicle. This aerodynamically optimised component serves to protect the occupants, just as in F1. Also included are two aerodynamically optimized helmets that were specially designed and manufactured for the PureSpeed concept.
The rest of the design is largely inspired by the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar, especially up front. Technical, sharply cut visible carbon fibre parts in the lower section of the car provide a strong contrast to the rounded shapes of the upper section.

That being said, the German automaker also looked to the distant past for inspiration. The eye-catching paintwork, in a colour gradient from Le Mans red to graphite grey with a black AMG pattern, alludes to the colour scheme of the victorious Mercedes car at the 1924 Targa Florio race in Sicily. Meanwhile, the two flying buttresses behind the seats are reminiscent of legendary race cars such as the 300 SLR in which Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson won the 1955 Mille Miglia in Italy.

Elsewhere, the design of the wheels is characterized by the unique carbon fibre cladding on the front and rear wheel covers. The rear wheel covers are completely closed to improve aerodynamics, while the front wheel covers are open to optimize airflow at the front end for brake cooling and downforce.

Inside the car, you will find a unique colour scheme and exclusive equipment including a custom clock designed by IWC Schaffhausen on the dashboard.

Mercedes‑Benz says the strictly limited Mythos series of 250 units will only be available to the most dedicated enthusiasts and collectors. Consider yourself extremely lucky if you happen to be one of them.
