All-New Maserati GranCabrio Follows GranTurismo’s Lead, Naturally
Maserati today introduced the all-new GranCabrio which, just as we anticipated, is identical to the GranTurismo except for the retractable soft top. And some extra weight, too, of course.
The GranCabrio name is returning to North America after the previous generation of the Italian luxury cabriolet, which was discontinued in 2019, was sold as the GranTurismo Convertible.

The soft top is available in five different colours including navy blue, dark grey, black, grey and a brownish hue called “greige.” Maserati opted against a folding hard top in order to save space, yet trunk capacity drops from 172 litres to 131 litres when the roof is open—a process that takes 14 seconds. Closing it requires 16 seconds. Both operations can be done while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h.
Similar to convertibles from Mercedes-Benz and others, the front seats incorporate neck warmers to keep the driver and passenger comfortable with the top down. Optionally, a wind blocker deploys behind the front seats to reduce turbulence and noise in the cabin, but it can't be used with rear occupants on-board.
Trofeo Only, For Now
At 1,958 kg, the Maserati GranCabrio is 163 kg heavier than the GranTurismo, yet somehow it boasts better weight distribution—51/49 vs. 52/48, to be exact. For now, the only model available is the top-line Trofeo, whose twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre Nettuno V6 delivers 542 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive help the engine send the car from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.
Maserati is likely to add a less powerful Modena trim at some point, as well as a fully electric GranCabrio Folgore. UPDATE: The latter will generate up to 818 hp and 995 lb-ft of torque, sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and provide a range of about 320-350 km. One last thing: just like the coupe, the cabriolet uses a staggered set of wheels (20 inches front, 21 inches rear) in addition to Brembo brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear callipers.
The new GranCabrio is already listed as a 2024 model on Maserati’s Canadian website, where it can be configured. Pricing is missing, however. As an indicator, the GranTurismo Trofeo starts at $243,500.
