2024 Subaru WRX Adds Not One But Two New Models

There’s more to the Subaru WRX for 2024 than the new, track-focused RS after all. An equally new top-line GT model is also part of the lineup. The company today released details and pricing (which is up about $1,000 from last year), so let’s take a closer look.

We’ll start at the bottom with the manual WRX carrying a base MSRP of $33,695. Even that one is now equipped with Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system (Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking System, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert). It also gets a dual 7-inch touchscreen, fully automatic LED headlamps, quad-tip high-performance exhaust and 17-inch alloy wheels.

We probably don’t need to remind you about the turbocharged 2.4-litre flat-four engine sitting under the hood, do we? Just for the record, it produces 271 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque from 2,000-5,200 rpm.

Moving up to the Sport trim with a manual transmission, starting at $38,195, the interior is enhanced with a tablet-style, 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, not to mention Subaru STARLINK connected services (3-year free trial), Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD) and Emergency Automatic Steering. On the outside, the model gains LED fog lights, a low-profile lip spoiler and 18-inch wheels.

The CVT option—or “Subaru Performance Transmission” in the company’s words—requires a premium of $1,900. It also comes with Auto Vehicle Hold, Reverse Automatic Braking, a torque-vectoring centre differential, electronic parking brake and SI-DRIVE selector. 

RS and GT

At the heart of the 2024 Subaru WRX lineup is the new RS model that we’ve previously told you about. Based on the Sport with the six-speed manual gearbox and priced at $41,895, it comes with a high-performance Brembo braking system including six-piston front calipers and dual-piston rear calipers, larger pads and cross-drilled rotors. The suspension receives an RS-specific calibration, with dampers that have been optimized for the 19-inch wheels wrapped in 245/35 R19 Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires.

What’s more, the steering rack has been retuned to enhance steering feel. Drivers can appreciate it while sitting in black and grey Recaro sport buckets with Ultrasuede inserts and increased lateral support. By the way, it’s the only WRX you can have in the new Sapphire Blue Pearl body colour.

For $100 more, the Sport-tech model can be yours, also with a stick shift, but let’s focus on the other addition for 2024, namely the WRX GT. Replacing the previous Sport-tech automatic trim, this top-line model features exclusive adaptive electronic dampers and Drive Mode Select, a system with four pre-set modes and a customizable individual mode that changes suspension, steering, all-wheel drive and powertrain characteristics to custom-tune the driving dynamics of the WRX.

Here, the wheels are 18 inches in size and feature a unique matte grey finish, while the climate control system gains a humidity sensor. The GT starts at $44,895. Don’t forget that freight, PDI and other fees amounting to $2,545 need to be added to the MSRP.
