2024 Honda Ridgeline Adds TrailSport Model, New Displays

Honda’s midsize pickup is finally getting a dedicated model with adventure and off-road driving in mind. Not something that will challenge the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and similar machines, but it’s a start.

Positioned between the Sport and Black Edition models, the new 2024 Ridgeline TrailSport visually stands out with a tougher-looking exterior (no matter what the available powder blue paint suggests). The “RIDGELINE” name is stamped across the tailgate for the first time and the prominent front skid garnish is painted Pewter Grey, matching the finish of the new 18-inch wheels. The crossbar atop the grille and the mirror caps have a gloss black finish.

Now, for the stuff that really matters, General Grabber A/T Sport all-terrain tires wrap the wheels, while the specially tuned suspension features unique spring rates, damper valve tuning and stabilizer bars to increase articulation and improve off-road ride quality. Additionally, steel underbody protection shields the oil pan from sharp rocks and other obstacles when tackling trails.

The torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system is identical to that of other Ridgeline models. It automatically sends up to 70% of the engine's torque to the rear wheels and then continuously splits 100% of that torque left and right based on grip conditions.

Inside the Ridgeline TrailSport, orange ambient lighting and orange contrast stitching on the steering wheel, seats and door panels immediately catch the attention. The TrailSport logo is embroidered on the front seats and headrests.

New Tech Across the Lineup

A new 7-inch digital instrument panel is now standard, featuring an all-digital tachometer on the left and a physical speedometer on the right. All Ridgeline models also get a new 9-inch colour touchscreen with a faster processor. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility comes standard, but you should know that the Ridgeline's own infotainment system has been simplified with new graphics and fewer menus.

Elsewhere, the new centre console features a large integrated armrest and expanded storage bin that can swallow a full-size tablet. A larger storage tray ahead of the shifter can accommodate two large smartphones side by side and incorporates a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad.

What doesn’t change is the 3.5-litre V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft. of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Let’s not forget the dual-action tailgate that opens sideways. Maximum towing capacity is rated at 5,000 lbs, while maximum payload is 1,583 lbs.

The 2024 Honda Ridgeline will arrive in Canadian dealerships starting this winter. Prices have yet to be announced. For the record, the outgoing model ranges from $49,569-$56,759 including freight and PDI.
