McLaren MP4-12C Performance Figures Released
When news first broke that McLaren was working on a new car to follow in the mighty F1’s footsteps, you better believe the world took notice. Because as much as cars like the Veyron have thoroughly trounced the F1’s speed record, there’s no getting around the fact that the F1 was arguably the last well-known hypercar designed and built by and for drivers as opposed to engineers.
Which means that the only term capable of describing how any red-blooded car fan views the McLaren MP4-12C is this: anticipation. For as much as we’d expect nothing less than pure scintillation from Mr. McLaren’s shop, there’s no getting around the fact that many a year has passed since the exhilarating F1 left the shop doors. But with the recent release of these performance figures, it’s safe to say that any pessimistic thoughts should be readily banished by the car’s 600 horsepower and 443 pound feet torque, because with a curb weight of just 2,870 pounds, the MP4-12C is guaranteed to be a blast and a half. However, there’s still a fly in the driver’s ointment as McLaren has maintained that the car will be offered with a solitary transmission option: a seven speed dual-clutch gearbox. Although capable of cracking off shifts in rapid enough succession so as to propel the shapely MP4-12C to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds, it may not be enough to distract drivers from the lack of a clutch pedal.
