What Are These New EVs Kia Plans to Reveal on Oct. 12?

Kia will host a global “EV Day” in its home market of South Korea on October 12 and wants to make it the start of an annual tradition aimed at “solidifying the brand as a leader in sustainable mobility.”

A shadowy picture released today hints at five vehicles that will be featured during that day. The ones on the far left and far right are the Kia EV6 and EV9, respectively, the latter due to launch in Canada before the end of the year. Our first-drive review is already out, so make sure you read it.

Front and centre is the EV5 that made its global debut in China this summer (see below). Kia will use EV Day to reveal more about this small crossover, and naturally we’ll share all images and details with you even though they may not be specific to the North American market.

The two other vehicles are said to be concepts—probably the kind that are close to being production-ready. One of them (the fourth model on the picture up top) could be the future EV3, a city-oriented crossover in a subcompact size that some have suggested could eventually replace the Soul. In case you forgot, the Soul EV won’t be back for the 2024 model year, making more room for the freshly redesigned Kia Niro EV.

The second concept sports rounder shapes and looks more like a car, though it appears to still come with a rear liftgate. Similar to every other Kia EV, this one boasts a unique lightning signature up front and embodies a different interpretation of the company’s “Opposites United” design language.

Come back on October 12 to learn more.
