New Ford F-150 Lightning Flash is Not What You Think

Ford has just announced another addition to the F-150 Lightning lineup. Called Flash, this new model isn’t about speed or performance, unlike the sporty electric pickup that Ford CEO Jim Farley teased earlier this year.

Rather, the F-150 Lightning Flash is a direct response to customers wanting a better-equipped and more technologically advanced XLT model—or a more affordable Lightning featuring the most desirable amenities and tech.

It comes with the extended-range 131kWh battery (the one that makes it possible to travel up to 515 km with a full charge), Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway assist (more specifically version 1.2 with automated lane changes) and a standard 15.5-inch touchscreen.

Other goodies include an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, wireless smartphone charger, power tailgate, Tow Technology Package and a heat pump optimizing the truck’s energy consumption and range.

Online orders for the F-150 Lightning Flash will begin in early 2024 at a base price of $69,995 USD. The Car Guide has learned from Ford Canada that the model will be offered north of the border, as well, though pricing has yet to be announced.

Special Edition and Slashed Prices

Back in August, Ford announced a new F-150 Lightning Platinum Black, a top-of-the-line special edition featuring a unique matte black exterior—the Blue Oval’s first-ever matte-wrapped production truck.

You’ll also find 22-inch matte black wheels, black premium Nirvana leather seating surfaces and more, including serialized aluminum plates (Ford plans to build only 2,000 units for Canada and the U.S. combined). Deliveries will start early in 2024.

That being said, the best news for F-150 Lightning customers came about a month earlier when the automaker slashed prices in dramatic fashion. The base Pro model now starts at $59,000 instead of $74,000 and is being made available to retail customers as well, not just businesses and fleet operators. That means it qualifies for the $5,000 federal rebate plus provincial rebates of up to $7,000 where applicable.

The XLT Standard Range, XLT Extended Range and Lariat Standard Range models all drop $10,000. Their new MSRPs are $69,000, $85,000 and $80,000, respectively. The Lariat Extended Range costs $99,000, which is down $9,000.

As for the top-line Platinum Extended Range model, you’re looking at a price of $115,000 instead of $121,000. Destination and delivery is $2,295 in all cases.
