2023 Montreal Auto Show is a Go, But What Will it Look Like?

The Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) will return to the Palais des congrès for the first time in three years after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2021 and 2022 editions.

While health and safety conditions now allow large public gatherings in closed environments, the fate of Canada’s second-largest auto show was rather uncertain. Across the industry, events like these are being seriously questioned as a growing number of automakers choose not to attend.

However, the Montreal Automobile Dealers Corporation (MADC) was hard at work in recent weeks and managed to secure the participation of nearly 20 different vehicle brands.

The 78th edition of the MIAS will take place from January 20-29, 2023 and occupy some 200,000 square feet—about two thirds of its usual floor space. The goal is to show as many models as possible to the public, including a wide range of electric vehicles.

“To date, the Show will feature between 70-75 percent of the brands and models present in the top 10 sales in Quebec,” said Luis Pereira, Executive Director of the MIAS. "We are aware that the automotive industry is going through a period of upheaval, but we are confident to present a Show that is worth the detour! The shortage and lack of inventory due to the global supply chain issues affects the entire industry and our show, as well. Some manufacturers will not be present, but those who will be with us are very excited to present their products to the enthusiasts.”

Unfortunately, MIAS organizers cannot disclose the identity of the participating brands at this time. There will be special attractions, too, but once again no details are available.

For former race car driver Bertrand Godin, who has served as a spokesperson for the event for over 20 years, this return is important and highly anticipated.

“We know that visitors won't find exactly the event they are used to, but what a pleasure it will be to be back after two years of absence,” he said. “The entire team has worked hard to bring you the best of the 2023 Auto Show. I look forward to seeing you in January at the Palais des congrès.”

An announcement about ticket sales and more details about the event will be made in early December

For the fourth straight year, the latest new models from the auto industry will not be present at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. This time, though, COVID-19 is not to blame.
