New Porsche 911 Sport Classic Unveiled With 543 Horsepower

Porsche definitely knows how to please nostalgic 911 enthusiasts. The German automaker today unveiled the new and exclusive 2023 911 Sport Classic, which will be limited to 1,250 units globally.

It’s the second of four collector's items that Porsche set out to create, following the 2021 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design (the two are shown side-by-side in the photo gallery above).

Just like the previous 911 Sport Classic presented in 2009 and limited to 250 copies, the new edition is visually inspired by the original 911 from 1964-1973, more specifically the 1972 Carrera RS 2.7 and its legendary ducktail design. With the help of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, it gets the 911 Turbo’s wide body but adds a unique fixed rear spoiler and double-bubble roof.

Once again, designers chose a body paint reminiscent of the Fashion Grey on early Porsche 356 models. The Sport Grey Metallic hue is something you won’t see on any other Porsche (except the one-of-one 911 Classic Club Coupe that was recently built for the Porsche Club of America). As an alternative, the new 911 Sport Classic is also available in solid Black, Agate Grey Metallic or Gentian Blue Metallic. In most cases, twin stripes painted on the front hood, roof and rear spoiler in light Sports Grey emphasize the car’s sporty design.

Another interesting detail is the Porsche Heritage badge on the engine lid grille in the rear, which is similar to the one that was awarded back in the day when a Porsche 356 reached 100,000 kilometres.

Inside the 911 Sport Classic, the iconic Pepita houndstooth pattern can be found on the door panels and seat centres, while two-tone, semi-aniline leather upholstery in Black/Classic Cognac provides a stunning contrast with the exterior colour. The dashboard features unique wood trim plus a gold-plated “911 Sport Classic” badge with a serialized number.

Porsche engineers got busy, as well. They came up with a brand new, twin-turbocharged 3.7-litre flat-six engine producing 543 horsepower, resulting in the most potent manual 911 available today. Power is sent to the rear wheels exclusively.

The seven-speed gearbox has a rev-matching function that compensates for engine-speed differences between the gears when downshifting. Meanwhile, the standard sport exhaust system is specially tailored to the model for an even more emotive sound experience, the company says.

Finally, the suspension is based on that of the 911 Turbo and 911 GTS, dropping the ride height by 10 millimetres. Thanks to the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the shocks respond to dynamic changes at lightning speed.

The new 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic is available to order now, with deliveries to start in Europe in July. Arrival in Canada is expected in late 2022. Pricing information will be announced closer to market arrival. By the way, each customer will receive a custom luxury watch that seamlessly picks up on numerous details from the car.
