Study: These are the Best Multimedia Systems of 2019
When it comes to infotainment and multimedia systems, some automakers understand precisely what today’s car buyers want and need, while others either stick to outdated technology and interfaces or try to do too much and end up confusing users.
Evaluating the best systems out there is not an exact science, but we can get a pretty good idea from J.D. Power’s 2019 Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study, which is based on data collected as part of its latest Vehicle Quality Survey.

The American firm measured the experiences and opinions of vehicle owners regarding the quality, design and features of their multimedia system in the first 90 days of ownership, identifying models with the lowest number of problems per 100 vehicles.
Interestingly, the overall number of reported problems with audio, communication, entertainment and navigation technologies has decreased for a fourth consecutive year.
Also, the study reveals that branded audio is positively impacting owner satisfaction with in-car multimedia technology as well as the vehicle.
“Although there’s a premium cost associated with opting for branded audio systems, we’re finding that the cost is worth the high level of value that it brings to both the consumer and the manufacturer,” said Brent Gruber, Senior Director, Automotive Quality Practice at J.D. Power.
“Specifically, when consumers are happy with their branded audio system experience, it ultimately moves the needle on overall satisfaction of the vehicle experience. While the option is readily available in premium vehicles, manufacturers of non-premium vehicles should consider offering the upgrade more often to boost owner satisfaction with an added benefit of increasing sales.”
Korean and German manufacturers dominate the list of the best multimedia systems of 2019 according to J.D. Power. We’re kind of surprised that Chevrolet did not receive an accolade since the brand’s MyLink system is widely regarded as one of the best in the auto industry.

- Small: Hyundai Accent
- Compact: Kia Soul
- Midsize: Hyundai Santa Fe
- Large: Nissan Titan
- Small Premium: Mercedes-Benz GLA
- Compact Premium: Genesis G70
- Midsize Premium: Audi Q8 and Porsche 911 (tied)
- Large Premium: BMW 7 Series
