2019 Audi A6 to Add New 2.0-litre Turbo Four

When the redesigned 2019 Audi A6 made its debut last year, it came to Canada exclusively in 55 TFSI trim with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 delivering 335 horsepower. However, we knew a cheaper, less powerful version was on the way, too.

On Monday, Audi announced details for the new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that will power the entry-level A6 45 TFSI.

Producing 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, this smaller turbocharged mill sends the midsize sedan from 0-96 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Just like the 3.0-litre unit, it will be standard equipped with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive.

While there’s no 48-volt mild hybrid system similar to the V6, Audi has previously confirmed that a plug-in hybrid variant of the A6, likely using a 2.0-litre engine, will be launched by the end of 2019—possibly in 2020 on this side of the Atlantic.

The on-sale date and MSRP for the four-cylinder 2019 Audi A6 45 TFSI in Canada have yet to be announced. In the U.S., this model is about eight percent cheaper than the V6-powered A6, so a similar pricing structure would put it at just under $63,000 here.
