Best New-Vehicle Warranties in 2018
Every year, automakers revise their various warranties from limited vehicle and powertrain coverage to emission control and corrosion protection. Sometimes, the customer wins; other times; they lose some benefits.
As you may know, CAA-Quebec has created a tool to shed light on the matter. In fact, it has just released its 2018 study on new-vehicle warranties, which also includes information about seat belt and airbag coverage as well as hybrid or electric powertrain coverage.
Some of the most noteworthy changes include Volkswagen reducing its perforation corrosion warranty for the second consecutive year, from 12 years/200,000 km to 7 years/unlimited km. On the other hand, Mitsubishi, which already leads the auto industry with 10 years/160,000 km powertrain coverage, now offers the same for the entire vehicle on several models as part of a promotion.
The CAA-Quebec study also reveals that a number of manufacturers—including most European automakers along with Nissan—cover the battery in their plug-in hybrid and electric cars for a longer period of time than other components of the electrified powertrain.
