Quest for a Cure and Land Rover Canada to help find the cure for cancer

For the third consecutive year, Land Rover Canada will continue its sponsorship of Quest for a Cure - a top-rated Adventure Race with the goal of not only pushing its challengers to their limits and beyond, but also to raise money and awareness to support a cure for cancer through the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Quest for a Cure was founded in 2002 by a team of Ottawa firefighters, who, through personal experience, saw the need to raise money and awareness for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation (ORCF). Today, Quest for a Cure is a highly respected, registered non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. Since its inception, Quest for a Cure has raised more than $200,000 for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation to help ensure cancer research and treatment remain a priority in our community.

The 8-hour race includes 35 grueling kilometers of mountain biking, hiking, orienteering, and water challenges. In teams of 2 or 3, the teams must always stay together and complete the entire course, passing all checkpoints in the correct order, to finish as a ranked team. Land Rover Canada is providing support vehicles for the event, as well as an on-site Land Rover off-roading course. Land Rover vehicles offer the greatest breadth of capability of any other vehicle available. The credentials of the Land Rover LR3, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and the LR2, from purposeful design to durability, are imperatives for the endurance athlete, making Land Rover the perfect adventure racing partner.

"Land Rover inspires and encourages adventure," said Barbara Barrett, communications manager for Land Rover Canada. "So the partnering of these vehicles with these exemplary adventure athletes was a natural fit."

Together, with help from the community, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation is leading the fight for cancer survivorship in Eastern Ontario. The Cancer Foundation is working to fill the gaps in services for cancer patients and have partnered with 11 local hospitals to ensure residents have the best possible care close to their homes, shorter wait times, improved quality of life and access to the latest new therapies.

Quest for a Cure 2009 takes place June 27 at Le Chateau Montebello in Quebec. For more information on the race and to register, visit www.questforacure.ca.
