Ford trail testing 2017 F-150 Raptor prototypes
The folks at Ford Performance are busy trail testing prototypes of the redesigned 2017 F-150 Raptor ahead of its fall 2016 launch.
In a video provided by Ford, 2017 F-150 Raptors disguised as run-of-the-mill 13th generation F-Series pickups can be seen negotiating trails in northern Michigan as development of the truck continues.
The 2017 F-150 Raptor has better ground clearance than the first-gen Raptor—though Ford won't say by how much—and comes standard with new three-inch FOX Racing Shox with custom internal bypass technology.
Ford says the shock absorption technology works to dampen and stiffen suspension travel over rough terrain, while an all-new four-wheel drive, torque-on-demand transfer case further improves the truck's on-trail performance.
The new transfer case, which manages power distribution between the front and rear wheels, combines the best attributes of clutch-driven, on-demand all-wheel drive with durable, mechanical-locking four-wheel drive.
