2009 Volkswagen GTI Coming to Canada

After showing a conceptual new GTI last year, Volkswagen has surprised no one by formally releasing news that the new GTI will be debuting worldwide this year, and that the new model echoes the concept’s space age style almost perfectly.

Looking somewhat inspired by the Scirocco model that never left Europe, the GTI Mark VI uses the same 2.0L turbocharged drivetrain to produce ten more horsepower than the current model, bringing the total to 210. Likewise, the same six speed manual or excellent six speed DSG gearbox will be available to back the turbocharged four cylinder. Attaching the wheels to the subframes will be the same sport suspension setup as before, but a new DCC adaptive sport suspension setup will be available as an option. With normal, comfort, and sport settings, the adaptive suspension should expand the GTI’s market share. Furthermore, with so much power and torque available, Volkswagen’s fitted an electronic differential that actively sends power to the outside tire while rounding corners.

Inside, the interior remains much of the same, with familiar stainless steel pedals, an aluminum shift knob, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel... and yes, the same plaid seating surfaces.
