One Year Later, The Nurburgring is Back to its Former Self

Good news for racing enthusiasts: the world’s most popular racetrack once again allows full-speed runs.

We remember that an incident last year–when Jann Mardenborough’s Nissan GT-R missed a turn and went flying through a security barrier, killing a spectator that was not supposed to be there in the first place–caused the FIA to place safety measures on the track: cars couldn’t go over 200 km/h on certain parts of the Nurburgring. This caused problems for race events, but also for car manufacturers, since they couldn’t try to beat the production-car lap time record anymore.

On April 2nd, Germany will host the VLN Endurance Championship Nurburgring, the event where the crash occurred last year. Thanks to changes made to the track (and authorizations from the FIA), the race will go on at full speed.

This also means that automakers will be able to prove their mettle once again… We’re sure Nissan was itching to bring the 2016 GT-R there, and Koenigsegg could probably try a few laps in their Regera!
