GMC Sierra HD: Even Classier For 2016

If you look at today’s pickup truck offerings, you will quickly realise that they aren’t just work vehicles anymore; today’s trucks are multi-use vehicles, combining power and strength with luxury and an impressive equipment list.

For 2016, HD versions of the GMC Sierra receive a few updates; they don’t receive a new engine or chassis, but they still have some nice new features, like:

  • HID headlights with LED daytime-running lamps that now come standard regardless of trim level
  • A lockable tailgate
  • An inductive charging station for cellphones
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration
  • New colours
  • Various electronic aides, like active direction assist
  • A gooseneck/fifth wheel trailer towing package, which includes frame-mounted hitches (among other things) and will be available early next year for Duramax-equipped models

GMC trucks were also tested with the new SAE J2807 towing standard:

  • 2500 trucks can tow 6,577 kilos (14,500 pounds)
  • With the aforementioned towing package, that number climbs to 8,156 kilos (18,000 pounds)
  • For 3500 versions with a single rear-wheel axle, maximum towing capacity is set at 6,804 kilos (15,000 pounds)
  • With the addition of the towing kit, they can tow up to 7,938 kilos (17,500 pounds)
  • Finally, 3500 trucks with dual rear-wheel axles will tow a maximum of 9,072 kilos (20,000 pounds) or 10,523 kilos (23,200 pounds) with the towing kit
