Jeep to Undertake Trans-Canada Expedition
We’ve all grown to know and love the Jeep Gran Cherokee, especially with its updated interior and relatively new diesel drivetrain. Providing the same towing capacity as the impressive 5.7L Hemi with fuel mileage you’d expect from a four cylinder sedan, the robust and hearty little powerplant complements the Grand Cherokee’s lazy and smooth platform perfectly. And of course, being the product of DaimlerChrysler/VW’s infamous Bluetec program of a couple years ago, it’s also a very, ahem, green powerplant.
Which is precisely why Jeep will be taking one through Canada’s most inhospitable landscape. Taking a 2008 model year Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD up from Vancouver to the Yukon to pick up a genuine Yukon diamond (yes, the glittery precious gem that is “forever”), the Grand Cherokee will be tested along the brutal roads of northern Canada, winding its way down towards Toronto for eventual showing at the Canadian International Autoshow. Perhaps the most interesting part is that the Cherokee in question will not be cleaned nor prepared for the show at all, and will provide onlookers with an excellent exhibition of the luxurious Jeep’s robust nature. Rapidly garnering international respect as a manufacturer of great expeditionary vehicles along the lines of the immortal Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep’s further expansion into the off-road world is a welcome one!
