Donkervoort D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition: Lighter And Without Paint
The Donkervoort name might not ring any bells, but the small Dutch firm has been building ultra-lightweight vehicles based on Colin Chapman's philosophy for years: simplify and add lightness.
Their cars were based on the Lotus Seven, but Donkervoort adapted them; they are now larger, lower and much, much more powerful.
The latest Donkervoort D8 GTO, the Bare Naked Carbon Edition, is a very literal interpretation of Mr. Chapman’s motto: in an effort to reduce weight as much as possible, they got rid of the paint.
This exposes the carbon fibre bodywork of the D8 GTO, since 90% of it is made out of this material. Said body panels can be finished in gloss or matte, depending on the owners wishes; it’s even possible to insert a little colour into the fibre by weaving a small coloured string into it.
The D8 GTO is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine that comes from Audi. With more than 400 horsepower on tap, the roadster can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and hit a top speed of 255 km/h.
