Volkswagen: Fry Your Nerves With the 2015 Golf

To put the spotlight on the 2015 Golf (and its hot hatch variant, the GTI), Volkswagen is currently playing a nerve-frying game with its customers: by testing your resolve, you could win a big rebate on your next Golf!

The rules are devilishly simple: the countdown starts at the car’s MSRP ($18995 for the regular Golf, $27995 for the GTI), and for each second that passes, the price drops by a cent. A minute is $0.60 less. An hour is $36. A day is $864. If you think the price is right (or if the suspense is killing you!), you click on the big orange button labeled LOCK IT IN. After that, you only need to enter a credit card number, so VW can lock in a $250 deposit.

You can then go to your local dealership and select the options and color of your next hard-earned car! A simple reminder, though: there are two distinct countdowns: one for the base car, and one for the GTI…

The countdowns will then reset, and the anxious waiting starts anew for the other people. If you missed the big deal, don’t worry: VW will give away more rebates until June 24 2014.

On average, a person saves about $200-300 per car. Not bad, but can you keep your cool?
