Next Ford Focus RS to have 330 horsepower?!
Ford's Focus RS has been forbidden fruit for far too long. Once available overseas with a ridiculous 301 horsepower, the all-conquering hot hatch made automotive journalists salivate, trackday heroes grin maniacally, and young mens' bank accounts wither and die. And we never got it.
What we will be getting is the Focus ST. Producing a still impressive 247-horsepower, it is, by all accounts, still a great car. But time and progress wait for no man, which means Ford is already hard at work coming up with its replacement. And although they've proven tight lipped about many of its details, Auto Express got Matthias Ton, the chief program engineer for global performance cars, to admit that the current 247-horsepower Focus ST is already running close to its 2.0L, turbocharged engine's ragged edge, and went on to mention that any subsequent Focus RS would thus have to be fitted with a variant of the 2.3L Ecoboost engine. Capable of producing up to 330 horsepower, that engine would make for a monster of a hot hatch, and would obviously require some serious front suspension and differential magic to make work. In any case, let's just hope that it manages to find its way to North America, this time!
