2012 BMW 3-Series Revealed!

Although it has long been considered the ultimate sports sedan, the BMW 3-series has been feeling its age as of late. With a brand new Mercedes C-class, Audi A4, and Infiniti G37 snapping at its heels, it’s about time BMW gave their most popular car a fighting chance… and they have, with this: the 2012 3-er.

Borrowing heavily from the equally new 5-series and 6-series, the new 3 also takes some cues from the upcoming i8, such as the split front fascia exposes more of the grill surrounds. But, for all its updates, the new car is unmistakably Bimmer, albeit with taller (so as to meet pedestrian impact standards) front and rear fascias. Interestingly (and surprisingly) the car has grown in every dimension, with quite a bit of length having been tacked on so as to increase legroom (slightly) and trunk space. However, thanks to modern metallurgy and assembly techniques, the new car is 88 pounds lighter than its predecessor, which should help make for an engaging drive. Thorough updates inside bring the car in line with modern standards, and of course, it being a BMW, a host of technological wizardry is assured.
