Throwback Thursday: Responsible off-roading

It was on an episode of Motoring 1993 that host Brad Diamond posed a pair of questions related to the burgeoning popularity of SUVs.

"When (sport utilities) are driven off-road are they being driven responsibly, and two, are consumers and manufacturers wasting their money on 4x4 technology?"

The answer to the second question still escapes the Motoring TV team some 23 years later, with the SUV and its descendant, the crossover, more popular than ever before.

To answer the former, the team sat down with Bert Coates, co-creator of the then-new Tread Lightly! Canada, and set out with a group of journalists to find out to do's and don'ts of off-roading.
