Are auto shows going the way of the dodo?

"What isn't here at the Detroit auto show," says Jim Kenzie, "is almost as interesting as what is."

Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini, Bentley and Tesla all decided to pass on the 2016 edition of what is widely regarded as one of the most important auto shows in the world.

"Is this a warning sign? Are auto shows as we know them on their way out?" Jim asks. "After all, everything that was revealed (in Detroit) was already seen on the Internet weeks (earlier)."

Bearing in mind that more than 800,000 people strolled through at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit over the course of two weeks in January, it's hard to imagine the show going away any time soon.

This segment originally appeared on Episode 13 of Motoring 2016.
