Laturnus on 'car-hating bureaucrats' and the Georgia Viaduct
It was in October that the Vancouver city council voted in favour of demolishing the Georgia Viaduct, a twinned bridge heading into and out of the city's downtown.
The adjacent Dunsmuir Viaduct will also be demolished as the city plans to convert the valuable land into two new city blocks and park space.
"This is a once-in-a-generation city-building opportunity," Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson said in a written statement, according to the CBC.
Ted Laturnus sees it as something completely different.
"It goes beyond Vancouver," he says. "Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Victoria—you name it—are all going to be affected by this because these car-hating bureaucrats have declared war on the automobile.
"And (in) Canada, life as we know it with an automobile is going to change for the worse."
