Tip of the Week: Replacing gas-charged lift supports

Most cars of the road today feature two or more gas-charged lift supports, or the cylinders that hold up the tailgate, hood, or even glove box.

Charged with a pressurized nitrogen, those cylinders eventually begin to fail and need to be replaced.

Resident mechanic Bill Gardiner talks about why those gas-charged lift supports need to be replaced and how to do so safely in this Tip of the Week.

This segment originally appeared on Episode 16 of Motoring 2015.
