Issue: On certain vehicles, the side curtain airbag inflator(s) could rupture and separate unexpectedly.

As a result, a piece of metal from the inflator could be propelled toward vehicle occupants with or without the airbag(s) deploying.

This could also cause the side curtain airbag(s) not to inflate properly in a crash.

Note: This is an expansion of Transport Canada recall no.

Safety Risk: An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury.

Additionally, an airbag that doesn't inflate properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the side curtain airbag(s), as necessary.
