Issue: On certain trucks, the powertrain control module (PCM) may have been programmed incorrectly. As a result, a false diagnostic trouble code (DTC) could cause the transmission to shift into neutral while driving, causing a sudden loss of power to the wheels. If the vehicle speed drops below 3 km/h after this happens, the transmission can shift to park automatically. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a 2.7 L, 3.5 L, or 5.0 L engine and without auto start-stop technology. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealership to update the powertrain control module (PCM) software.
