Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the left-rear output shaft (axle) could break due to a production defect.

If this happens, there would be a loss of power to the rear wheels.

Additionally, if the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not applied, it could roll away.

Safety Risk: A loss of power to the rear wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

A parked vehicle that rolls away could also increase the risk of an injury or a crash.

Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the left-rear output shaft.
