When Dodge introduced the Challenger SRT Demon 170 a few days ago, we were left in awe and also searching for answers. Seriously, who needs a car with up to 1,025 hp that can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 1.66 seconds?
It’s safe to say most drivers can settle for much more modest performance. But how slow is too slow?

Wonder no more. Here are the top 10 slowest-accelerating vehicles of 2023 based on their 0-100 km/h times. We’ve excluded full-size SUVs and pickups as well as commercial vans.

10. Honda HR-V
The new-for-2023 HR-V is larger and more powerful (158 hp), yet it takes 10.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h.

9. Hyundai Tucson
The Tucson features an aging 2.5-litre engine with 187 hp. Sprints from 0-100 km/h are achieved in 10.1 seconds.

8. Kia Sportage
Also new for 2023, the Sportage shares its 187-hp engine with the Tucson, needing 10.3 seconds to top 100 km/h.

7. Toyota Corolla Cross
Despite its 169 hp, the small and versatile Corolla Cross is slow from 0-100 km/h, completing the sprint in 10.3 seconds.

6. Kia Niro
The base Niro is an efficient hybrid crossover with a combined rating of 4.4 L/100 km, but acceleration is a sluggish 10.4 seconds.

5. Jeep Cherokee
Achieving 0-100 km/h sprints in 10.7 seconds, the Cherokee makes poor use of its 180-hp 2.4-litre engine.

3. Mitsubishi RVR
As the oldest small crossover on the market, the 148-hp RVR needs 11.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h.

2. Hyundai Venue
This little crossover replaced the Accent Hatchback in 2020 but retained its diminutive engine. The 121-hp Venue accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 11.6 seconds.

1. Mitsubishi Mirage
No surprise here. The least powerful car in Canada is also the slowest from 0-100 km/h. With a mere 78 hp under the hood, the Mirage clocks at 13.2 seconds.
