What makes the new 5 Series' cockpit stand out from its rivals? Everything is oriented towards the driver.

The new BMW 5 Series is 36 mm longer than the previous-generation car (at 4935 mm), 6 mm wider (at 1868 mm) and 2 mm higher (1466 mm). It rides on a wheelbase stretched by 7 mm (2975 mm).

While the first generation of the 5 Series appeared in 1972, 2017 marks the arrival of the seventh-generation car.

Two variants will be offered in Canada at launch, the 530i xDrive and the 540i xDrive.

Those who want a little more power can opt for the 540i and its 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine. It produces 335 hp, 35 more than in the outgoing 535i.

More than 7.6 million BMW 5 Series sedans have been sold worldwide since 1972.

The 5 Series benefits from a weight loss of 100 kilograms, thanks to the use of magnesium, aluminum and high-strength steel.

The M Sport package will be standard. It includes a more agressive front air dam, side skirts, a rear air diffuser and square exhaust finishers. It also features a lowered suspension and twin-spoke, 19-inch alloy wheels.
