Thousands of Ram, Jeep Vehicles Recalled to Fix Trailer Towing Module

More than 450,000 Ram and Jeep vehicles in the U.S. and another 45,000 or so in Canada are part of a new safety recall involving a towing issue.

In some cases, and for an unspecified reason, the trailer tow module could fail and cause the trailer's lights and/or brakes to malfunction, thus increasing the risk of collision.

On the one hand, this problem would make the trailer less visible, causing drivers behind to not realize the vehicle is braking or intends to turn or change lanes. On the other hand, it would increase braking distances and unsettle the driver. That’s not mentioning the increased wear on the vehicle's brakes.

The recall affects the all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee, which is starting to arrive at dealerships, the 2024-2026 Wagoneer S electric crossover, as well as the 2025-2026 Ram 1500 and Heavy Duty (including certain chassis-cabs from the 3500, 4500 and 5500 series). Remember, some of these trucks can tow up to nearly 37,000 lbs.

No accidents or injuries directly related to this issue have been reported to parent company Stellantis so far.

That said, something needs to be done. Ram and Jeep dealers will replace the trailer tow module at no cost to owners. Notices will be mailed toward the end of March. You can check if this recall applies to your vehicle by visiting the manufacturer's recall website.
