44,000 Older Hyundai Palisades Await Side Curtain Airbag Fix
While the new, second-generation 2026 Hyundai Palisade is garnering much praise so far, including the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award, the company has just announced a safety recall covering all first-generation model years.
More specifically, 43,990 Palisades from 2020 to 2025 are affected in Canada. According to the recall notice posted by Transport Canada, the side curtain airbags on some of these vehicles may not inflate properly for third-row occupants in the event of an accident, thus increasing the risk of injury.

The problem was discovered during a routine compliance test. Both the cause and solution are not yet specified. Hyundai is continuing its analysis and developing a fix. Affected Palisade owners will receive a letter by mail in due course. They can also visit the Hyundai Canada recall website.

The exact same number of 2020-2025 Palisade SUVs were recalled in Canada last September due to potentially defective seat belts. Due to components that were built out of specification by a supplier, the seatbelt buckles in the driver, passenger and second-row outboard seats may not latch correctly, thus increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Importantly, the problem is more likely to occur in colder ambient temperatures.
In this case, dealers must perform an inspection and replace the defective seatbelt buckles if necessary, free of charge. In the meantime, Hyundai claims that the Palisade remains safe to drive, but recommends that drivers and passengers fasten their seatbelts with a quick and direct motion and check that they are securely buckled by pulling on the seatbelt.
The first-generation Hyundai Palisade currently has 11 recalls, including the one for the side curtain airbags described above.
