World’s Only White Ferrari 250 GTO Sold for $53 Million
The Ferrari 250 GTO is one of the most sought-after cars among collectors, yet it can sometimes disappoint. This is what happened last weekend at the Mecum auction in Kissimmee, Florida.
The unit up for sale—arguably the biggest star at the event—was the only one among the 36 GTOs produced between 1962 and 1964 to be finished in Bianco Speciale. It sold for $38.5 million USD, or the equivalent of $53.4 million CAD.

The winning bid fell well short of the $51.7 million USD paid for another 1962 250 GTO at an RM Sotheby's auction in New York back in November 2023 (the most expensive Ferrari ever sold at auction). It was also slightly less than the €34.9 million ($56.4 million CAD) fetched in February 2025 in Paris by a 250 LM that won the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 250 GTO sold on Saturday by Mecum has been driven by many renowned race car drivers such as Graham Hill, Jack Sears and Mike Parkes. Hill, a two-time Formula 1 world champion, is also the only man to have won the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
One likely reason for the lower-than-estimates selling price is that the car no longer has its original heart. The engine was damaged and briefly caught fire during an on-track accident at the Goodwood Revival in the U.K. in 2023. In its place is now a Colombo V12 built by Ferrari Classiche.

The lucky buyer is famous Ferrari collector David Lee, who also owns a 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari, not to mention the brand new, hybrid-powered F80 supercar.
