Acura to Halt RDX Until Next-Gen Successor With Hybrid Tech Arrives

A fourth generation of the popular Acura RDX compact luxury SUV is on its way to replace the current one, which dates back to the 2019 model year.

The company today released a teaser showing a side view of the vehicle with a sharp, dynamic-looking silhouette, and simultaneously confirmed plans for a new hybrid powertrain—a first for Acura.

In the short term, production of the RDX will end around spring. A U.S. spokesperson has confirmed that multiple parts suppliers are no longer able to keep up, but Acura dealers will have 2026 models for sale for most of this year. Customers will then be redirected to the smaller ADX or the three-row MDX.

The next RDX is expected to hit the market "in the next couple of years," according to Acura's press release, which failed to be more specific. It could arrive as a 2028 model.

"We are excited to introduce our fourth-generation RDX as it will be the first Acura powered by our all-new, dual motor, hybrid-electric system," said Nathan Muir, Assistant Vice President at Acura Canada. "The RDX has been very popular with Canadians since its introduction in 2006, this new hybrid model diversifies the Acura family as we will soon offer a mix of hybrid, EV and ICE models."

The turbocharged four-cylinder engine is likely to return under the hood, while the optional hybrid system is expected to be similar to that of the Honda CR-V, but with higher power and torque.

Acura, which recently discontinued the fully electric ZDX, will replace it with the all-new 2027 RSX, based on the RSX Prototype seen last year (pictured above). This model is slated to go on sale in the second half of 2026.
