Dodge Hornet Production Officially Comes to an End
The Dodge Hornet’s run has officially come to an end after only three years.
Back in the summer of last year, Stellantis said that production of the Hornet was “postponed for the 2026 model year as we continue to assess the effects of U.S. tariff policies,” referring to the 25% tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on foreign-made vehicles (the Hornet was built in Italy).

But now a final decision has been made. A Stellantis spokesperson has confirmed to several media outlets in the U.S. that Hornet production has ended. Dodge dealers will sell off the remaining units—with significant discounts—and will continue to provide service and honour warranties for 2023-2025 Hornet owners and lessees.

Lackluster Sales
The Hornet featured either a turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 268 hp or a plug-in hybrid system enabling 53 km of pure electric driving. However, with prices ranging from $41,495-$60,995 (MSRP) as well as numerous quality and reliability issues, particularly where the powertrain is concerned, sales have been disappointing to say the least.
Only 1,690 units were sold in Canada in 2025, a 28.7% decrease compared to 2024, putting the Hornet far behind most other compact SUVs. Of course, the halt in imports in the second half of the year didn't help. Dodge’s Durango midsize SUV sold roughly five times as many units, although it too suffered a decline in 2025 (-12.6%).

The Tonale Sticks Around
The Hornet's cousin, the Alfa Romeo Tonale, which is assembled at the same Italian factory, remains in production and continues to be imported to Canada, incidentally. It even receives an update for the 2026 model year including cosmetic tweaks and a new Speciale model.
However, as we reported last week, Stellantis is discontinuing all its plug-in hybrid models in North America, and that includes the Tonale PHEV. The only remaining option will therefore be the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine.
